Our Company
About KaliVir
A clinical-stage company advancing a differentiated, multi-mechanistic oncolytic immunotherapy for cancers that resist checkpoint inhibitors.
Our story
Pioneering the next generation of oncolytic immunotherapies
Founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2019, KaliVir Immunotherapeutics was established to advance a new generation of oncolytic immunotherapies engineered to harness the immune system against cancer, including tumors that resist checkpoint inhibitors. The company builds on pioneering research in tumor immunology and viral engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, and on advances in oncolytic immunotherapy first made at its predecessor, Western Oncolytics.
That scientific foundation gave rise to KaliVir’s proprietary Vaccinia Enhanced Template (VET™) platform, which integrates multiple genetic modifications into the vaccinia backbone. VET™ is designed to overcome the limitations of earlier oncolytic approaches through enhanced tumor selectivity and targeting, flexibility for both intratumoral and intravenous delivery, and local expression of therapeutic payloads that activate antitumor immunity.
From its beginnings as an emerging biotechnology company backed by early investors, KaliVir has evolved into a clinical-stage immuno-oncology company. Our lead clinical candidate, VET3-TGI, is being evaluated in the Phase 1/1b STEALTH-001 study, and the VET™ platform has attracted global partnerships with Astellas Pharma and Roche.
Leadership
A seasoned executive team with R&D and immuno-oncology experience
Our team’s expertise spans vaccinia virus biology and immuno-oncology, oncolytic virus discovery and preclinical translation, Phase 1 through global Phase 3 programs, and start-ups and partnering. Members of our clinical and regulatory team have helped advance oncolytic immunotherapies from first-in-human studies through registrational development, including at CG Oncology.

Powering the next generation of immunotherapy
We are dedicated to advancing the frontier of cancer care and pioneering the next generation of innovative oncolytic immunotherapies engineered to selectively target tumors, converting “cold” environments into “hot,” immune-receptive zones. By leveraging our dual mechanisms of direct cellular lysis and systemic immune activation, we create a potent foundation for synergistic combinations with checkpoint inhibitors and potentially other oncology therapeutics.
Our oncolytic platform is engineered for both intratumoral and intravenous delivery, providing the flexibility to target tumors directly or reach metastases systemically.
Strategic partnering interests
We invite strategic partners to collaborate on these next-generation modalities to overcome treatment resistance and redefine the standard of care for patients with hard-to-treat cancers. We are actively seeking collaborations that amplify the clinical impact of our VET™ platform and accelerate the delivery of life-changing therapies to patients. Our primary areas of interest include:
Combination therapy trials
Identifying synergies with established and emerging standards of care, including PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors and CTLA-4 blockers.
Pipeline expansion and payloads
Co-developing next-generation assets by integrating novel therapeutic payloads, such as cytokines or bispecific antibodies, into our proprietary delivery vehicles.
Joint clinical development
Establishing co-development agreements for clinical assets.
Out-licensing
Global and regional collaborations that leverage a partner’s clinical and commercial expertise to maximize the reach and impact of the therapeutic assets in our pipeline.
Current collaborations
Astellas Pharma
We have partnered with Astellas Pharma under an updated licensing agreement for VET2-L2 (ASP1012), a systemically delivered oncolytic immunotherapy designed for patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumors. The program continues to advance under a revised development arrangement pursuant to an amendment to the original licensing agreement.
Roche
Roche supplies atezolizumab (TECENTRIQ®) for the STEALTH-001 combination cohorts evaluating VET3-TGI with checkpoint inhibition.
Our collaboration process
